PBII History:
The project began at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville when two former Deans, Tom Lindahl and Dennis Horne began to investigate the possibility of having an incubator building in Platteville. The first meeting was held at the PBII Groundbreaking Cermonyformer PTI Building where the idea was brainstormed. The two deans were aware of funds from the Department of Commerce for conducting feasibility studies. At that time in (1996) the deadline for application to secure funds had expired. The following year they asked Howard Brooks to write a grant application to conduct a feasibility study. In 1997 the University was awarded a $15,000 matching grant to conduct the study. The feasibility study seemed favorable and the next step was to write for a $100,000 matching grant toward the construction of the building.

A $100,000 CBED grant was awarded and this grant is matched with funds from EDA for $411,300, RBEG for $75,000, the donation of land in the Platteville industry park by the City of Platteville, $15,000 from CenturyTel, $32,000 in in-kind donation by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and other in-kind donations. In February of 2000 and April 2001 PBII was awarded a $25,000 CBED grant for operation expenses.

PBII became incorporated in November of 1998. The land was graciously donated by the City of Platteville and closing on this land took place on October 6, 1999. The groundbreaking for the new facility occurred on August 18, 2000. On May 2, 2001, the Platteville Business Incubator was ready for tenants and the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new 26,000 square foot facility was held on that date.
